We are pleased to announce that we have been appointed as lead engineers on the innovative conversion of the former Brampton Court Hotel into sustainable homes.

This project is a cornerstone of Torbay Council’s pioneering Hotels to Homes initiative, aiming to repurpose under-utilised properties to address the pressing need for affordable housing in the region.

Project Overview

Located on St Luke’s Road South in Torquay, the Brampton Court Hotel is set to be transformed into 14 modern, energy-efficient homes, comprising one and two-bedroom units. This redevelopment not only seeks to meet local housing demands but also contributes to the broader regeneration efforts within Torbay.

RYALL Structural Engineers has been appointed to provide comprehensive structural and civil engineering services across the development. Adaptation of the existing hotel structure will be engineered to meet contemporary housing standards. This includes emphasising safety, durability, and environmental responsibility.

Working in collaboration

The project brings together an esteemed team of local professionals. Armada Property UK has a proven track record in the delivery of notable commercial and residential projects. Architectural design will be undertaken by Co Create Architects, an award-winning firm renowned for their innovative and sustainable designs. We have previously collaborated with both companies, sharing a commitment to excellence.

Benefits to the Community

The transformation of the Brampton Court Hotel is anticipated to have several positive outcomes for the local community:

  • Affordable Housing: The project will provide much-needed affordable housing options, addressing a critical shortage and offering quality living spaces for local residents.
  • Economic Revitalisation: By repurposing an under-used property, the project contributes to the revitalisation of the area. In turn, this will potentially attracting further investment and enhancing the neighbourhood’s appeal.
  • Environmental Sustainability: The focus on energy-efficient design aligns with broader environmental goals, promoting sustainable living and reducing the carbon footprint of the development.

The Brampton Court Hotel conversion represents a forward-thinking approach to urban development, by utilising existing structures to meet contemporary needs. As the project progresses, it will potentially serve as a model for similar initiatives, demonstrating how strategic partnerships and creative engineering can effectively address housing challenges while enriching local communities.
